ABOUT Lindsay

Lindsay Newitter is a certified Alexander Technique Teacher, helping people to mindfully improve their posture to reduce strain, pain, and fatigue, to boost energy, and improve confidence.

Lindsay began her practice after completing a 3-year certification course in 2007 and has been working with individuals, groups, and companies for the past 16 years. She has been featured as a posture expert in The New York Times, Vogue, Allure, CNN Health, and on ABC News Good Morning America.

My initial exposure to the Alexander Technique was as a theatre student in university.  I discovered that issues that I had thought to be "physical", "vocal" or "mental" as a performer were all manifestations of the way I carried myself. I had been a shy kid and, as a teen, I had scoliosis and wore a back brace. The postural habits I’d developed to cope with these physical and social challenges lead to a lot of tension, strain, fatigue, and low confidence.  I’d been trying all sorts of things from pulling my shoulders back to exercising, but I wasn’t really getting at the core issues.

Once I started applying what I was learning in my Alexander Technique lessons to my daily life, addressing these challenges became concrete and manageable. The Alexander Technique gave me a simple framework to help me be more aware of body so that I could carry myself with ease.

about the alexander technique

The Alexander Technique was developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by F.M. Alexander, a public performer who set out to discover the source of a re-occuring vocal problem and in the process, made important discoveries about posture and movement.

What’s unique about it is that it addresses the need improve our posture while we’re doing the things we do all day. It helps you to improve your sense of body awareness (called proprioception) and to recognize what good posture actually feels like…so you can sit taller at the computer or on the phone, walking down the street, on stage, or at the podium.

I’d love to help you develop more comfortable, better posture.
